Emily Wegner - Contributor
Emily holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in History from Truman State University. She also earned an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). She currently serves on the Board of the Missouri Council for History Education and is an active member of the National Council of History Education (NCHE), the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), and the local Missouri Council for the Social Studies (MCSS).
Emily began her career in Holden, MO, where she taught dual credit history and government, and worked part-time at an alternative school. She later transitioned to Raytown, teaching a variety of history classes, dual credit courses, electives, night school credit recovery, and eventually transitioning into curriculum and instruction. Currently, Emily serves as the K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Specialist in the Lee’s Summit School District.
Emily is actively involved in assessment development for Social Studies with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Since 2017, she has participated in item writing, content and bias review, and item specification development. Additionally, she is a member of the Balanced Assessment Systems Collaborative with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).
In 2020, Emily co-founded The History Co:Lab, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth through collaboration and learning with community museums and cultural institutions. She is also working with the Ewing Kauffman Foundation and the Hall Family Foundation to support teachers with Real World Learning Initiatives.
Emily resides in Blue Springs, MO, with her husband and children. She enjoys spending time in nature, reading, and playing games with her family after a delicious meal.
