Kyle Fleshman was born and raised on a family farm in Putnam County, Missouri. He spent most of his adolescence working on the farm and playing sports with his friends. After graduating at the top of his high school class in 2004, Kyle continued his education at Northwest Missouri State University. While there, he received his degree in Secondary Math Education.
In 2008 he graduated from Northwest, started his first position as a high school math teacher at La Plata high school, and married his high school sweetheart Brook Fleshman. Kyle taught high school and dual credit courses at La Plata for eight years. While working at La Plata, he earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Kyle also coached high school and junior high boys basketball, as well as both boys and girls track, while at La Plata. During his time as a coach at La Plata, he was fortunate to coach 9 district-winning teams and had 3 teams finish in the top four of the state of Missouri.
After having sons Emmitt and Bayler, Brook and Kyle decided to move closer to home. Both accepted jobs to work at Putnam County in 2016. During his time at Putnam County, Kyle has helped revamp the mathematics curriculum and triple the number of students who take dual credit math courses. He has been nominated by the local CTA as the 9-12th grade teacher of the year several times and has also been asked by the senior class to be the graduation speaker in 2019 and 2022. In 2022, he led the boys basketball team to the final four for the first time in school history. For that accomplishment, he received several coach of the year awards.
Kyle has also been a member of the Northeast Math Consortium for the last fifteen years. He currently leads the group of local math teachers in their quarterly meetings.
With his move back to Putnam County, his family has enjoyed building a new house on their 40 acre farm over the last few years. Kyle continues his family's legacy on the farm with several hundred acres of corn and beans with a few cattle for his boys to show at the county fair.
